Moving house…er, hostings
After years (since June 2009!) of using WordPress.com’s free service, I’m finally putting my domain name to use. Yes, I’ll admit it, I’m one of those Luddites who didn’t understand that I should have been using WordPress.ORG and a self-hosted site. Now, I will be. I’ll still be at:
www. LaurelWanrow.com
If you follow my blog through email, there is nothing you need to do. You’ll receive the posts as usual. If you follow through WP, you will see new posts in your Reader, but not receive email updates. If you’d like to subscribe, simply go to the sidebar –> and fill in the boxes under ‘Subscribe by Email.’
I’ll be at the new ‘dot ORG’ site and moving my subscribers soon. Meet you there!

Why are you switching to .org?
Just curious
I think I follow you through email
Good luck with the move!

I’m having trouble with my links working. I have my domain redirecting to the wordpress.com site, and think that’s the problem. Also, I cannot use certain widgets on the .com format, such as a popup to encourage newsletter sign-ups. I know that is sometimes a pain, but I thought I’d try it. I wanted to eliminate ads on my site as well. Do you use a self-hosted site? Any tips to share?

I redirect from my domain name too but haven’t had any link trouble that I know of.
Had heard that newsletter sign ups were problematic with .com (which is what I use) but I’m not sure how to solve that.
As for eliminating ads, WordPress offers “No Ads” (https://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/). There’s a small fee for it but I think it’s worth it.

Ah, I didn’t know about the ‘no ads’ policy. Perhaps I’ll use that on my nature site. Thanks for mentioning!
